Norwalk Central

About the Project

Norwalk Central is a large mixed-use development area in the heart of the City that stretches between Beardsley St. to High Rd. along the east side of Sunset Dr./HWY 28.

Some existing developments in Norwalk Central include the Colonial Parkway district which hosts City State Bank, Elizabeth Holland Park with ponds and trail, and a Light Industrial Park (Capital City Fruit, Loffredo Fresh Produce, K&R Building Supply).

The next areas to continue development within Norwalk Central is the Hughes Century Crossing (retail and residential), Gregg Young Sports Campus, and the City of Norwalk's public recreation facility currently named City State Bank Norwalk Fieldhouse, a new city/public park with future amphitheater, and a 10ft bike trail stretching from HWY 28 to E. 18th St.

This area is being designed to provide the community, visitors and tourists with an all-encompassing experience. The area will entail multiple opportunities for recreation, sporting venues, fitness, entertainment, retail shopping, service providers, eateries, hotels, and public spaces such as parks, trails, amphitheater, and civic/community facilities.

A few components that make this district different are the convertible flex spaces and the year-round activity offerings. A 20+ acre indoor-outdoor sports and recreation campus will be the “anchor” piece within the district and also be a unique public-private endeavor, allowing for both private development to help balance the city's tax base, as well as much needed space and amenities for the public to gather and enjoy.

This area is creatively designed to allow easy access for all visitors to reach and enjoy every component without having to drive to each destination. A walkable, welcoming neighborhood feel will draw people to this core area and provide them with a safe, fun, and interesting experience.

Some additional ideas that have been discussed as future possible amenities are a "Superheroes and NorWalk of Fame '' tribute in honor of the many military and public safety members that went above and beyond, as well as the multiple professional athletes and celebrities that have roots in Norwalk. The idea of a cultural park has also been discussed which would offer native-based art and landscaping, along with an exhibit dedicated to Norwalk’s international partnerships. Although this area of Norwalk Central is still in the initial stages of development, there are many opportunities to explore and we will continue to update the public information platforms as components are developed by project work groups and approved by the City Council to be implemented.

We greatly value the public's feedback and look forward to providing you with a fantastic experience and wealth of opportunity in the Norwalk Central area!
